If you want to avoid getting sick or spreading out disease, hand washing is the best. It only requires soap and water or hand sanitizer. As we are touching people, surfaces and other things, you can acquire germs using your hand. You can get infected with germs by touching eyes, nose and mouth. Hand washing frequently can halt the transfer of virus and bacteria. You need to wash your hands before preparing food, eating, treating wounds, touching injured person and removing contact lenses. You also need to wash your hands after handling raw meat, using the toilet, touching animals, blowing nose, treating wounds or handling garbage. Always asses your hands if they look dirty.

There is a proper way to wash your hands. The first thing that you need to do is wet your hands with running water, apply soap and rub your hands for about 20 seconds. Rub the surfaces like hands, wrist, and in between fingers. Make sure to rinse well. Dry your hands using towel or air dryers. Anti bacterial soaps are effective in killing germs compared to regular soap. An excellent alternative are alcohol based hand sanitizers. If you will be purchasing in this in the market, make sure that it contain about 60% alcohol.
It is important to remind your kids to stay healthy by encouraging them to wash their hands properly. Teach them on how it is properly done. It is ideal if you post a chart near the sink to serve as guide. You can let them use alcohol based sanitizer but store them after use. If you are putting your child on a day, be sure to apply hand washing. Remember that hand washing doesn’t take time or effort. It offers reward so they can prevent illness. This habit can definitely protect your health.
